Located in Colorado, what Keystone Resort lacks in challenging runs, is quickly made up for by the sheer amount of terrain. The resort stretches over six different peaks combined for a total of 3,100 skiable acres. Keystone is also the perfect destination for families and groups with a dedicated children’s area, beginner ski runs, and ski instruction.
Known for being an authentic, rugged ski area, Taos Ski Valley is the largest in the state of New Mexico. It’s nestled at the base of Kachina Peak and offers 1,294 acres of skiable terrain. More than half of the runs at Taos Ski Valley are for experts, but the remaining 50% of terrain is evenly divided for beginning and intermediate skiers.
While Echo Mountain is easily one of the smallest ski resorts in Colorado, it’s the closest one to Denver. Much of the terrain at Echo Mountain is catered to beginning skiers and prices tend to be more affordable. So, if you’re a novice skier or snowboarder, Echo Mountain will be a good stop if you’re flying into Denver.
With easy access to and from New York City, Belleayre Mountain makes for an excellent day trip or weekend getaway devoted to skiing and snowboarding. The mountain itself boasts a casual atmosphere and skiing at Belleayre is typically more affordable than other locations. World-class ski instruction is also available for beginners in addition to 50 trails and 8 lifts.
The oldest ski resort in New Mexico, Sandia Peak is conveniently located near Albuquerque for easy access from the airport. The highlight of the ski area is a 15-minute tram ride that ascends to the top of the mountain. As you rise more than 10,000 feet, you’ll be able to enjoy 11,000 square miles of stunning panoramic views.
