Do your research and talk to seasoned friends to help you decide which route to take.  If you want to make sure you’re buying the correct gear, head to your local ski shop. They will help guide you on the right decisions on which skis, poles, and bindings are for beginners.

Ski Boots:

For ski boots, we recommend you purchase. Ski boots are designed to comfort your feet. Rental ski boots can be uncomfortable and may not be quite the right size and tightness for you. They are supposed to fit snug and not overly tight.

Ski Helmet:

Safety is of the utmost importance so you’ll want to either rent or own a ski helmet. You should never ski without one.

Ski Jacket & Pants:

Invest in insulated jackets and pants. For the best comfort, make sure they both are wind and water-resistant.

Base & Mid-layers:

Under your ski jacket and pants, you’ll want to avoid wearing cotton products. They aren’t breathable and hold moisture. Purchasing synthetic material or wool works best.

Gloves or Mittens:

Another essential skiing item is gloves and mittens. You’ll need these are your hands will contact the snow and grab the ski poles. Waterproof gloves with insulation work best for ski conditions.

Ski Socks:

Like your underlayers, it’s important to have socks that are made out of synthetic material or wool. Keeping your feet dry is key. Bring at least two pairs a day in case you head back out later in the day.

Goggles:

Goggles will help your vision and battling glare when sliding down the mountain. Also, if there are snow flurries, they will help prevent snow blindness. You can rent these at the ski shop along with your helmet.
