Nestled in the corner of southwest Montana is Big Sky Resort. Just as popular in its summer season as in the winter, Big Sky Resort hosts some the nation’s best mountain adventures with over 5,750 acres of skiing, dinning, lodging, activities and amenities.
In October of 2013, Big Sky Resort expanded and merged with Moonlight Basin Resort just north to become the largest ski resort in America. Its sheer size allows for 29,000 skiers per hour to traverse over 250 named runs, nine terrain parks and 29 lifts. The Lone Peak Tram transports skiers to the mountain’s summit at 11,166 feet and to some of the resort’s most difficult terrain, as well as former Moonlight Basin slopes.
Basecamp to Yellowstone National
Big Sky Resort is located only a short snowcoach or snowmobile ride from Yellowstone National Park for those days you want to take a break from the slopes. Known as the basecamp to Yellowstone, Big Sky Resort is the perfect launching point to explore America’s prized National Forest. Big Sky Resort hosts many tour operations that guide guests along Yellowstone’s most scenic trails for photo opportunities of the park’s wildlife.
The Boiling River
A week or two of skiing Big Sky Resort’s all-intensive slopes will leave you exhilarated, but worn. Unknown to many, Big Sky lies adjacent to Montana’s greatest secret – The Boiling River. Only a few miles away inside Yellowstone National Park are natural hot springs in which you can soak your sore muscles while taking in the rustic and untouched scenery. Be forewarned, it’s about a half-mile long hike to the springs, but that’s the price you pay to share your hot tub with a herd of elk.
