Read on and you\u2019ll be speaking like a seasoned skier or snowboarder in no time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here\u2019s The Essential Ski Glossary\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Aerials: Freestyle ski jumping with in-air tricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alpine Skiing: Downhill skiing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apres-Ski: Activities enjoyed after a day of skiing, typically spending the evening in a bar.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Binding: The piece connecting your snow boot to your skis or snowboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Black Run: Describes an advanced-level ski slope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blue Run: Describes a more manageable ski slope good for beginners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chair Lift: A ski lift that transports you to the top of the mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cross-Country Skiing: Skiing along gentle hills for long periods of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fakie: Skiing or snowboarding backward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Freestyle: Skiing or snowboarding that includes jumps and tricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gondola: An enclosed ski lift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grooming: When machines smooth out the snow on the mountain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Halfpipe: A U-shaped funnel used for freestyle skiing and snowboarding.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hard Pack: Compressed snow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heliskiing: Taking a helicopter to more remote areas for skiing or snowboarding on untouched snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moguls: Bumps on more advanced ski slopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nordic Skiing: The same as cross-country skiing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Off-Piste: Areas outside of marked slopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Piste: French for &#8220;ski slope.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Powder: Fresh snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Red Run: Intermediate level slope.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rope Lift: A slow-moving rope that transports skiers and snowboarders to the top of the slope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ski Area: Marked area on the mountain for skiers and snowboarders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Slalom: A downhill race involving tight and quick turns around gates.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Slope: Downhill area for skiers and snowboarders.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Slush: Wet or melting snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snow Machine: Machines that produce artificial snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snow Park: Specific area for freestyle skiers and snowboarders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snowplow: \u2018V\u2019 formation of the skis for turning or slowing down.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wax: Applied to the bottom of skis and snowboards for a smoother ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>White Out: When visibility drops to zero.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hatom-extra\" style=\"display:none;visibility:hidden;\"><span class=\"updated\"> December 21st, 2023<\/span><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Skiing and snowboarding are such unique sports.
